February Recap and March Goals

March 2, 2016

And just like that, it’s already March ~ so crazy! March is an exciting month though, because it includes the beginning of spring and, this year, Easter! For me personally, March is a big month because my thesis is due at the end of it… eeek! So on one hand, I’m looking forward to this new month, while on the other hand, I’m bracing myself a bit!

With a new month comes a new set of monthly goals. I mentioned in this post and in this post, 2016 is all about focus for me, and about delighting in being a student. To help myself grow in these ways, I’m setting concrete, baby-steps goals for myself in some key areas of my life. This includes monthly goals, which I started in February and which I share here on the blog, partially to hold myself accountable and also in hopes that it will encourage you in your goals too!

So today, I’m joining in on the With Grit & Grace link-up and sharing with you my February recap and my March goals.

F E B R U A R Y  R E C A P

Academic Goals:
1. Work on my thesis for 90 minutes every day.
Okay, so I definitely did not spend an exact hour and a half on my thesis every single day. However, I did work on it for a chunk of time on most days (except for one week when I was totally in an unmotivated slump). So while I didn’t accomplish this goal precisely, I did accomplish it to some degree. Progress!
2. Stay on top of readings.
I wasn’t horrible with this goal, but I definitely wasn’t perfect at it either. For example, I fell behind in my reading for my class on novels, because the reading consists of, well, novels…which are long. Nonetheless, I was pretty good about keeping up with the reading for my other classes, and when I fell behind, I made efforts to catch up. So once again, progress!
Personal Goal: Limit my spending.
Guys, I did great on this one ~ I’m super proud of myself. I only spent money unnecessarily like three times all month. It helps that I included avoiding spending money unnecessarily in my Lenten resolutions, to better keep myself on track and focused on bigger, better, and more necessary money-spending in the future.
Spiritual Goal: Discern and stick to my Lenten resolutions.
As I just mentioned, I gave up spending money unnecessarily for Lent, as well as taking the elevator (I live on the fourth flour of my dorm). These have proven to be helpful and fruitful sacrifices for me so far this Lent!

And now, here are my academic, personal, and spiritual goals for March:

M A R C H  G O A L S

Academic Goal: Work on, write, and finish my thesis.
It’s getting down to crunch time, guys: my thesis is due right before Easter. So I need to renew my February goal of working on my thesis every day, and take it up a notch. I want to, and need to, put work into this paper every day, write it, and finish it!

Personal Goal: Try a capsule wardrobe.
I’ve been thinking about and looking into the idea of a capsule wardrobe lately, and I’ve decided I want to give it a try! It’ll have to wait until I get back from spring break (which I’m currently home for), but I’ll jump into it as soon as I can. Hopefully I’ll post about it here on the blog along the way!

Spiritual Goal: Finish out Lent strong and celebrate Easter.
I want to stay strong these last few weeks of Lent, continuing to stick to my resolutions and striving to grow spiritually. I want to maintain a disciplined, penitential, and meditative spirit to prepare for Christ’s passion and death. Then when Easter comes, I will rejoice in and celebrate his resurrection with great joy. (Can’t wait!)

How did you do on your February goals? What are your goals for this coming month?
Sincerely,
~Stephanie

I started a capsule wardrobe in the fall and loved having simple pieces that can be thrown together and still look stylish. I need to work on getting rid of clothes I didn't wear and putting together my spring capsule wardrobe. Stopping by from Grit and Grace, hope you linkup with my goals linkup and Small Victories Sunday Linkup too.

“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All othe “The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only - and that is to support the ultimate career.” • A beautiful quote about homemaking from one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis.

Fellow homemakers & mamas, we are not “just” homemakers or “just” stay-at-home moms. We have the most important job in the world: caring for our children & our homes, forming little souls, shaping the next generation, and most importantly, raising future saints.

It is a privilege and a blessing to have such a job, one that God designed women for in a unique way. May God always give us the we need to do it well. 💕
New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be w New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be when you bring a new baby home. When you feel like you can’t get anything done anymore. Between feeding, changing, and holding the baby, oftentimes there’s no time (or energy) for anything else. And while caring for your baby is of course a worthy job, it doesn’t change the fact that there are things you need or want to do.

I get it—I’ve been there and still am! But I’ve figured out some hacks along the way that I want to share with you.

So mamas, here are my top 8 tips to get things done, even with an infant in the mix!

1. Prioritize prayer over everything.
2. Make checklists.
3. Prioritize 1-2 tasks for the day.
4. Babywear.
5. Take advantage of small windows of opportunity.
6. Accept help.
7. Practice teamwork with your spouse.
8. Go easy on yourself.

Read all the details in my newest blog post! Link in bio. And always remember mamas, you’re doing a great job, and God chose YOU to be the mother of your baby! There is no greater mother for your baby than you! 💗

One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes f One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes from my favorite saint (and the namesake of my little babe featured in this video), St. Thérèse the Little Flower: “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” Her own mother is also a canonized saint, St. Zélie—so I know Thérèse spoke from firsthand experience! How beautiful that the love in our own motherly hearts is a reflection of God’s love for us! Let’s strive to live up to that reflection, and to follow St. Zélie’s example in our own motherhood and raise wonderful saints.
