Coffee Shop Drinks for Non-Coffee Drinkers

March 8, 2016

I absolutely love going to coffee shops, despite the fact that I intensely dislike coffee. Call me crazy, but no matter how spruced up it is, I just despise the bitter taste of coffee! But I’m a huge tea drinker – and luckily, coffee shops have plenty of amazing tea-related options!

So if you’re a fellow coffee hater, or if you’re just looking to expand your coffee shop beverage horizons, read on for some of my favorite non-coffee coffee shop menu items.

1. Chai Tea Latte
The ever-classic chai tea latte. I’ve never been to a coffee shop that doesn’t sell them, so it’s one non-coffee drink you can always count on being able to get. A delicious blend of sweet and spicy, chai tea lattes are perfect for an afternoon study session, a crisp fall day, or for when you just need a hug in a cup. Try it hot or iced!

2. Vanilla Chai Tea Latte
If you want to add some extra sweetness to your chai tea latte, try ordering it with a shot of vanilla. Starbucks in particular makes an amazing vanilla chai – my best friend introduced me to it and I never looked back! I tend to prefer chai lattes on the sweeter side, as opposed to the spicier side, so ordering it with vanilla adds just enough sweetness to make it deliciously perfect.

3. Earl Grey Tea Latte, AKA London Fog
If you’ve never tried one of these, please do so ASAP. It’s earl grey tea in steamed milk with a shot or two of vanilla. Between the delightful earl grey taste and the sweet vanilla flavor, it is heavenly. Not every coffee shop makes London fogs, but even if you don’t see it on the menu, the barista may know how to make it if you ask. Give it a try – you will not be disappointed!

4. Green Tea Frappuccino
Don’t let the murky green color scare you away! A green tea frap is actually deliciously sweet and refreshing, so it’s a perfect cold non-coffee option. Starbucks makes this drink under this name, and I’ve also seen it called a green tea chiller (or something similar) at other places. Next time you’re making a coffee shop stop on a hot day, try one of these!

5. Hot or Iced Tea
When in doubt, just go for straight-up tea! Coffee shops always offer hot tea in multiple flavors, as well as iced tea, sometimes in multiple flavors. So if you’re not feeling like a tea latte, a good old cuppa never disappoints. I personally enjoy Wendy’s Honest Tropical Green Tea, Panera’s iced green tea, and several of Starbuck’s iced teas, to name a few. As for hot tea, these are some of the best types ever.

Do you prefer coffee or tea? Do you have any non-coffee / tea-related beverage recommendations?

I don't like coffee either, and I live in a hot climate, so if we ever go to Starbucks or Coffee Bean, I get coffee-free ice blended drinks, usually a pure chocolate one or a fruity one. They aren't healthy or anything, but definitely cool and refreshing!

I have soo much love for JP2. He was the pope of my childhood - the first papa from as far back as I can remember. I love so many of his other writings too, and gosh I just love him in general.
