{Midweek Musings} Feast Day Edition

March 25, 2015

Currently:

Listening: to my Taylor Swift station on Pandora. So far, I’ve heard music from the likes of Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, and of course Taylor Swift herself.

Reading: finishing up excerpts of The Decameron by Boccaccio, and beginning The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer ~ courtesy of my awesome Medieval Literature class.

Eating/drinking: a chocolate milkshake. Because today is a FEAST DAY!

Wearing: a white lacy top + a royal blue maxi skirt + flip-flops. I’m wearing blue on purpose ~ for Mary! Because TODAY IS A FEAST DAY!

Planning: my Easter break! I get to go home in a week for the Triduum + Easter! I’m excited to be going home again, although I feel like I was just there (it will have been less than 3 weeks since I was there for spring break). I’m especially excited because I get to go visit my dear friends from my former college ~ and two of them are even coming to spend Easter at my house!

Feeling: so excited + joyful. BECAUSE TODAY IS A FEAST DAY!

Celebrating: the feast of the Annunciation! Have I mentioned that today is a feast day? 😉 Not only is it a feast day, it’s a solemnity! It’s a wonderfully celebratory day in the Church: the day Mary said YES to God’s invitation to be the Mother of God. Because of her fiat, God Himself was able to become man and enter the human world to redeem all of mankind from their sins and give them hope of eternal life. OHMYGOODNESS.

Not only is the Annunciation a wonderful day in the universal Church, it’s an especially celebratory day for my school, because it is our patronal feast day! This evening, the bishop is coming to celebrate Mass and to consecrate our whole school to Mary! Afterwards we’re having a steak dinner outside on the quad, complete with live music and yummy food. The whole school, including students, faculty, staff, our president, and our founder, will be there to celebrate. To make the festivities even better, it’s a brilliantly sunny, 86-degree day here in Florida ~ and it is gorgeous!

TODAY IS SUCH AN AMAZING DAY!

I encourage you to pray the Angelus today ~ what a perfectly fitting prayer for today! We prayed it at the beginning of my philosophy class today while gazing at the image below. When we did so, I tried to really think about the words of the prayer, while looking intently at the painting, and that’s when it really hit me how wonderful a feast today is. I kinda got goosebumps.

I hope you enjoy today, friends! God bless!
~Stephanie

The angel of the Lord appeared unto Mary,
And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to your Word.”
And the Word was made flesh,
And dwelt among us.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord,
Thy grace into our hearts,
That we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son
Was made known by the message of an angel
May by his Passion and Cross
Be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.

I love your new hair color, kid! It suits you well. 🙂 Unless it's actually not that color and my mind is just screwing it all up. Because what even are colors after that dress snafu?!? 😉

Thanks, dear!!! 🙂 Haha yep, it's colored — I got it highlighted a few weeks back! And the highlights just keep getting lighter and lighter practically every day…I think it's because of the sun, haha.

“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All othe “The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only - and that is to support the ultimate career.” • A beautiful quote about homemaking from one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis.

Fellow homemakers & mamas, we are not “just” homemakers or “just” stay-at-home moms. We have the most important job in the world: caring for our children & our homes, forming little souls, shaping the next generation, and most importantly, raising future saints.

It is a privilege and a blessing to have such a job, one that God designed women for in a unique way. May God always give us the we need to do it well. 💕
New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be w New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be when you bring a new baby home. When you feel like you can’t get anything done anymore. Between feeding, changing, and holding the baby, oftentimes there’s no time (or energy) for anything else. And while caring for your baby is of course a worthy job, it doesn’t change the fact that there are things you need or want to do.

I get it—I’ve been there and still am! But I’ve figured out some hacks along the way that I want to share with you.

So mamas, here are my top 8 tips to get things done, even with an infant in the mix!

1. Prioritize prayer over everything.
2. Make checklists.
3. Prioritize 1-2 tasks for the day.
4. Babywear.
5. Take advantage of small windows of opportunity.
6. Accept help.
7. Practice teamwork with your spouse.
8. Go easy on yourself.

Read all the details in my newest blog post! Link in bio. And always remember mamas, you’re doing a great job, and God chose YOU to be the mother of your baby! There is no greater mother for your baby than you! 💗

What are your best tips for keeping up with tasks after a baby? Let me know in the comments!
One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes f One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes from my favorite saint (and the namesake of my little babe featured in this video), St. Thérèse the Little Flower: “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” Her own mother is also a canonized saint, St. Zélie—so I know Thérèse spoke from firsthand experience! How beautiful that the love in our own motherly hearts is a reflection of God’s love for us! Let’s strive to live up to that reflection, and to follow St. Zélie’s example in our own motherhood and raise wonderful saints.

I have soo much love for JP2. He was the pope of my childhood - the first papa from as far back as I can remember. I have so much appreciation for his Theology of the Body that first blew my mind in high school and that I was privileged to study more deeply in college. I love so many of his other writings too, and gosh I just love him in general.

Happy heavenly birthday to an amazing man, pope, and saint. St. John Paul II, pray for us! 💕
