A Little Flower Grows

Catholic Blog by Stephanie Peter

{Midweek Musings} 7.8.15

July 8, 2015

It’s been a while since I posted one of these! So since today is Wednesday, I thought I’d post one to check in + get you caught up a bit on my random life happenings.

By the way, my series about my England trip is now complete! If you haven’t yet, check out all 5 blog posts to read about my adventures there + see some of my best photos!

~ Lately ~

Listening: My current song obsession is “Bright” by Echosmith. I think it’s so cute, plus it’s fun to sing. I want to learn it on my guitar so I can play/sing a cover of it!

Reading: My summer reading goal is (was) to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, seeing as we’re approaching mid-July and I still have not finished The Fellowship of the Ring, I’m not sure that’s actually going to happen (#slowreaderproblems). But that’s alright ~ I’ll just aim to read as much of it as I can!

Eating/drinking: This summer, I’ve had a cup or two of English breakfast tea almost every morning. Today was no exception, and I even followed it up with a cup of Zen tea. Also, yesterday I consumed two chai tea lattes. I promise I’m not obsessed.

Wearing: Well, yesterday, I wore a brand new pair of pants that I purchased from Forever 21 earlier this week. I LOVE them! I’ve always thought this style of pants was so cute, comfortable, + modest ~ and now that I have a pair of my own, I can confirm that all of those things are true!

Planning: I’m kind of itching to do something fun + exciting before heading back to school, so I’m planning a possible (but rather up in the air) trip to visit a couple friends in another state. I’m hoping this won’t end up being one of my crazy, way-out-of-the-realm-of-realistic-possibility travel ideas that I tend to come up with, but that it might actually be able to happen!

Striving: To succeed in my biology class! I’m currently taking Biology 101 at my local community college to fulfill one of my needed science requirements at my regular college. The sciences ~ biology, chemistry, physics ~ have always been my worst subjects, because everything in them literally goes straight over my head. (I know, it’s pretty sad.) But I’m determined to work hard at this bio class, try my best to understand cells + DNA + all those other concepts, and ace the class!

How is your summer going? Anything new + exciting going on in your life lately?

Thanks for reading! God bless!

Stephanie Peter | Catholic Womanhood + Motherhood
Just some August memories (okay, and a couple from Just some August memories (okay, and a couple from very early September lol) 🤍 What a blessed month August was with lots of family time, our daughter’s 1st birthday, and slow sweet summertime.
“Not all of us can do great things, but we can d “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” (Mother Teresa)
Motherhood + homemaking are full of “small things.” Vacuuming, washing dishes, changing diapers; picking up toys, folding the laundry, reading stories. And so often we find ourselves doing these things with bitterness, annoyance, or reluctance. But let’s catch ourselves and instead try to do them with “great love” in our hearts. Making this simple mindset shift can make all the difference! Instead of seeing drudgery in all our day-to-day tasks, let’s see them as opportunities to love our families (and, by extension, God) even more. ✨
“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All othe “The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only - and that is to support the ultimate career.” • A beautiful quote about homemaking from one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis.

Fellow homemakers & mamas, we are not “just” homemakers or “just” stay-at-home moms. We have the most important job in the world: caring for our children & our homes, forming little souls, shaping the next generation, and most importantly, raising future saints.

It is a privilege and a blessing to have such a job, one that God designed women for in a unique way. May God always give us the we need to do it well. 💕
New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be w New mamas, I know how hard the transition can be when you bring a new baby home. When you feel like you can’t get anything done anymore. Between feeding, changing, and holding the baby, oftentimes there’s no time (or energy) for anything else. And while caring for your baby is of course a worthy job, it doesn’t change the fact that there are things you need or want to do.

I get it—I’ve been there and still am! But I’ve figured out some hacks along the way that I want to share with you.

So mamas, here are my top 8 tips to get things done, even with an infant in the mix!

1. Prioritize prayer over everything.
2. Make checklists.
3. Prioritize 1-2 tasks for the day.
4. Babywear.
5. Take advantage of small windows of opportunity.
6. Accept help.
7. Practice teamwork with your spouse.
8. Go easy on yourself.

Read all the details in my newest blog post! Link in bio. And always remember mamas, you’re doing a great job, and God chose YOU to be the mother of your baby! There is no greater mother for your baby than you! 💗

What are your best tips for keeping up with tasks after a baby? Let me know in the comments!
One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes f One of my favorite quotes about motherhood comes from my favorite saint (and the namesake of my little babe featured in this video), St. Thérèse the Little Flower: “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” Her own mother is also a canonized saint, St. Zélie—so I know Thérèse spoke from firsthand experience! How beautiful that the love in our own motherly hearts is a reflection of God’s love for us! Let’s strive to live up to that reflection, and to follow St. Zélie’s example in our own motherhood and raise wonderful saints.
